Bolt cutters are the most effective innovation in the modern world which provided us with many advantages. Basically, there are two ways of adjusting the bolt cutters. You can adjust it by adjusting jaw with the help of jaw adjusting bolts otherwise you can adjust the bolt cutters by using neck adjustment bolt. The position of jaw adjustment bolt lies on the top of the two jaws. And the neck adjustment bolt lies in between the joints of the blades with the handles. Some bolt cutters may have two adjustment bolts which reside on each sides joints.so, here is all the information to know how to adjust bolt cutters.
Be it neck adjustment bolt or the jaw adjustment bolt it is both eccentric in shape. This shape results in either bringing the blades together or apart from the joints. This also helps to maintain the gap within the joints or check their angles.
Direction to spin the bolts
Basically, you can turn the bolts either in clockwise or in the anti-clockwise direction. Be it jaw adjustment bolts or the neck adjustment bolts a clockwise turn will bring the cutting edges towards each other. And the anti-clockwise turn will push them away from each other. Though the different cutters behave in different ways thus you need to keep a close eye on which direction the blades are moving. The vice verse may take place in many cases.
Neck adjustment bolt and when to use it
The neck adjustment bolt lies on the top of the neck of every bolt cutters. They are used for the alteration of jaw’s angle. You should use the neck adjuster only for general purpose; it can finally be tune in between the blades there is no need to change the entire position.
Jaw adjustment bolts and when to use it:
These blot lies on the cutter’s jaw and helps to create distance between the edges as well as the jaws’ length. Turning the bolts either clockwise or anti-clockwise will cause either attraction or the repulsion of the blades. It can be used if the neck adjustment bolts fail to work properly. After sharpening of blades it basically helps to manage the increased distance from the metal caused by sharpening process. Though it is advisable to use these bolts rarely, the neck adjustment bolts are specifically manufactured to operate the blades regularly.
Neck adjustment bolt:
1. Hold the bolt cutters
The jaw of your cutters must be closed and you can either hold it tightly either one hand or you can use your knees to hold it. In the case of one neck adjustment bolt, the facing should be upwards.
2. Turn the bolts
Use a spanner to turn the bolts. The clockwise turn will bring the blades towards each other the anticlockwise will move them apart. In case of second bolt turn the cutters other side and repeat the same process to get your desired distance or closeness.
3.Checking the gap between the blades
Once you are done turning the bolts do check whether the gap is proper or not with the help a paper. Slide a thin piece of paper in between the two blades, if it’s easy to take it out then you have to close it more and if it does not, you have the right gap.
4.If marks are seen on the paper
If you see the marks on the paper that indicates your jaws are too much tight and need to loosen up. Tight jaws may damage both the material as well as blade edges.

Hold your bolt cutter tight in a vice so it uses it easily.
2. Turn the bolts
Similarly with the help of a spanner which has the open head turn it clockwise to move blades towards each other and anticlockwise to push them apart.
